I offer freelance evaluation, research and consultancy to arts, cultural and community organisations. I specialise in community music and the music education sector, although my work includes theatre, dance, visuals arts and heritage projects. Many of my clients are Music Education Hubs and arts or youth organisations who provide community and participatory music projects.

One advantage of freelance life is that I can combine evaluation and research with my other professional interest – early years music. I work in nurseries and children’s centres supporting music activities for young children. It may sound like an incongruous combination, but actually they’re rather complementary. After a few hours of data crunching in front of a computer, it’s delightful to then spend time being musically playful with a group of 2 year olds.  And it keeps me in touch with the reality of how challenging working as a music leader can be. That’s really useful when supporting music educators and project managers to evaluate their work.
